The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Huazhong University of Science and Technology is one of the most powerful teaching and research units in the field of electrical engineering in China. Its history originated from the electrical disciplines of Wuhan University, Hunan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Nanchang University and Guangxi University. 1953 merged to form the electrical engineering department of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, 1988 was renamed as the electrical engineering department of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, 200 1. The college has electrical and control engineering, power engineering, high voltage engineering, applied electronic engineering, new technology of electrical theory and electromagnetism, Institute of fusion and plasma, Institute of applied electromagnetic engineering, National Electrical and Electronic Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center (electrician) and National Electrical and Electronic Engineering Basic Course Teaching Base (electrician). The College has the State Key Laboratory of Strong Electromagnetic Engineering and New Technology, and the National Pulsed Strong Magnetic Field Science Center (to be built) led by the College has become one of the four major pulsed strong magnetic field science centers in the world. The college also has J-TEXT, the only tokamak magnetic confinement fusion experimental device in domestic universities, the only national professional laboratory for new motors in domestic universities, and several provincial-level key laboratories and engineering research centers covering power safety, new motors, pulse power supply and ship power supply. The main research direction of the college covers the whole process of electric energy production, transmission, application, transformation, detection, control, dispatching and management.
College is the first batch of master's degree authorization points, doctor's degree authorization points, postdoctoral mobile stations and doctor's degree first-class discipline authorization units in China, and "Electrical Engineering" first-class discipline belongs to the first batch of national first-class disciplines.
