Perhaps many people think that Yuan Longping looks no different from an ordinary farmer, but he was born in a well-off intellectual family. My mother was a primary school teacher and my father was an official in the Republic of China. His father graduated from the Literature Department of Central South University and has a patriotic heart. During his stay in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, he went to transport arms. Father's patriotism is also deeply buried in Yuan Longping's heart. New China has just been established, and there are famines everywhere. The United States and Japan began to invest a lot of money in rice hybridization research in the 1920s, but for decades, they found nothing and thought that rice had no heterosis. After 6 years from 1964 to 1980 and 16, Yuan Longping finally carefully cultivated 700 male sterile plants of artificial hybrid rice. However, hybrid rice is a world problem. Because rice is a hermaphrodite crop, it is difficult to remove the male flowers one by one for hybridization. With the trial planting of hybrid rice in various countries in the world, hybrid rice has attracted worldwide attention.
