At present, he is the director of chitin research and development center of Wuhan University, director of Chinese Chemical Society and deputy director of applied chemistry committee, director of chitin chemistry and comprehensive utilization chemistry of agricultural and sideline products of Chinese Chemical Society, director of renewable resources committee of Hubei Chemical and Chemical Society, honorary dean of School of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering of Jianghan University, and counselor of distinguished professor and Wuhan Municipal People's Government of Japanese Ishikawa Industrial Research Institute. Co-authored five monographs, including Eco-environmental Materials and Chemical Progress of Natural Coatings (Japanese version).

The main research directions are chemical biology of renewable resources and natural lacquer chemistry; The application technical fields involved include the structure and function of chitin and its derivatives, the preparation of metal-based nano-fluorescent materials and nano-drug controlled-release materials based on the design and assembly of natural polysaccharide molecules, the design and biological activity of natural polysaccharide molecules, the bionic synthesis and application of biomimetic bioactive macromolecules, and the composition and application of natural paint, a unique resource in China.

Up to now, more than 80 papers/kloc-0 have been published in major academic journals at home and abroad, of which more than 60 papers have been included in SCI, and 17 applied research achievements have been approved and applied for patents, and won 3 second prizes for scientific and technological achievements from State Education Commission, Ministry of Internal Trade and Hubei Province. In recent five years, he has presided over and participated in the National Natural Science Foundation, the National "863", the key scientific and technological projects in Hubei Province, the Sino-Japanese cooperation projects, and the 13 cooperation projects with large enterprises. He has attended 24 international conferences and academic exchanges in Japan, the United States, Hongkong and Taiwan Province.
