Yan Fu's Early Stage of Comparative Studies between English and Chinese and Ma Jianzhong, li jinxi, Zhao Yuanren, Wang Li and Lv Shuxiang all made important contributions to the comparative studies between China and foreign countries in this period. This is the ultimate goal of comparative study. "The inscription points out the direction for the construction of this discipline, so it has become a famous saying repeatedly quoted by scholars. At present, the representative figures in the field of comparative linguistics in China are: Xu Yulong, Pan Wenguo, Wang Juquan, Liu Zhongde and Yang Zijian.
