The study of overseas Chinese media began in the 1920s and 1930s. A group of scholars appeared in Singapore in the late World War II and published some academic research monographs. China News Agency edited and published the Proceedings of the Chinese Media Forum and the World Chinese Media Yearbook, which laid the foundation for in-depth study of overseas Chinese media.
