The study of overseas Chinese media began in the 1920s and 1930s. A group of scholars appeared in Singapore in the late World War II and published some academic research monographs. In 1980s, some scholars and monographs on overseas Chinese media appeared in China, such as Fang Jigen, History and Present Situation of Overseas Chinese Newspapers (Xinhua Press, 1989), Yang Li's Research on Overseas Chinese Newspapers (Beijing Yanshan Press, 1990) and Wang Shigu's Research on the History of Overseas Chinese Newspapers. 1998), Wang Shigu: The Encyclopedia of Overseas Chinese Press and Publication Volume (China Overseas Chinese Publishing House, 1999), Cheng: Research on Overseas Chinese Media (Xinhua Publishing House, 200 1), Bu: Introduction to Overseas Chinese Media (Jinan University Press Chinese media people at home and abroad gathered together to strengthen friendship and cooperation, and discussed how overseas Chinese media should respond and change under the two major trends of economic globalization and cultural diversification, the history and present situation of overseas Chinese media, cross-cultural communication and many other topics. China News Agency edited and published the Proceedings of the Chinese Media Forum and the World Chinese Media Yearbook, which laid the foundation for in-depth study of overseas Chinese media.
