What have I learned through this elective course?

Through this elective course, I learned some basic knowledge of Mastercam 9, the functions of two-dimensional drawing, editing and marking, the use of three-dimensional design system, including wireframe modeling, solid modeling and surface modeling, and two-dimensional machining of milling machine.

I remember when I first chose Mastercam as an elective course, I didn't know what kind of course it was. I didn't know anything until I got the textbook. Mastercam software is a PC-level CAD/CAM system developed by American CNC software company. I have only studied AutoCAD drawing before, but I still have some basic knowledge of drawing. Mastercam 9 consists of four modules: design (modeling), milling (pin milling), lathe (turning) and wire cutting (wire cutting). Design module is the foundation, which is also included in milling machine, lathe and wire module.

Start Mastercam 9, its interface is different from other software!

First, basic two-dimensional drawing

Including creating points and lines, arcs and circles, splines, rectangles, ellipses and regular polygons.

1. For creating points, you can create the required points by coordinate input method, origin, center, endpoint, intersection, midpoint, point, last point and relative point.

In Mastercam, you can create various points: bisectors of curves, nodes of parametric splines, control points of NURBS splines, dynamic points, points of specified length, cutting points, projection points, normal/distance points, grid points and circumferential points.

Creating points is usually used to draw points at specific locations.

2. Creating straight lines is one of the basic methods of 2D painting. Straight lines include horizontal lines, vertical lines, connecting lines between any two points, continuous straight lines, polar coordinates, tangents, normals, parallel lines, bisectors, nearest straight lines, etc. Can be easily implemented in Mastercam 9. This software includes several methods to create these different lines, and can draw different lines as needed.

3. In Mastercam 9, you can open the arc submenu for creating arcs/circles by selecting the create-arc command in the main menu area. When you choose the "Two Points" command, you draw a rectangle by selecting two diagonal points of the rectangle. The width, height and position of the rectangle are defined by two selected diagonal points.

Second, the graphic editing

Include selecting and editing objects, deleting/restoring deleted objects, and transforming and pruning objects. After the basic two-dimensional drawing, it is sometimes necessary to edit (modify) the drawing to achieve the required graphics.

1. To edit graphic objects, you must select the objects to edit before you can edit them further. There are several methods to select objects in Mastercam 9: quick selection, continuous object selection, window selection, region selection, single object selection, all object selection, group selection and deselection.

2. When editing graphics, it is necessary to delete objects in many cases, and in some cases, the deleted objects may be restored. Therefore, it is very important to delete objects and restore deleted objects when editing graphics.

6. In Mastercam solid modeling, you can create a solid model by continuously extruding, rotating, sweeping or lifting the drawn curve. After creating a solid, you can edit the edges of the solid by rounding, chamfering, shelling, drawing surfaces and trimming.

Five, two-dimensional milling machine processing system

Including work setting and operation management, tool parameter setting and the functions of each module of the two-dimensional milling machine processing system.

The ultimate goal of 1.CAD/CAM system is to generate NC codes that can be interpreted by the user's CNC controller, and the function of CAM is to generate a general tool position (tool path) data file (NCI file), which also contains instructions such as feed speed, spindle speed and cooling control during machining.

2. For the milling machine processing system, the shape of the workpiece can only be set as a cube, and after the size of the workpiece is set, the position of the workpiece must be determined. In the machining system of Mastercam milling machine, the position of the workpiece is defined by setting the origin position of the workpiece.

3. Before generating the tool path, you must first select the tool used in machining, and the machined tool can only be selected from the current tool list. You can set the current tool list through the Tool Manager dialog box.

4. Workpiece materials. Users can directly select the materials to be used from the system material library, or set different parameters to define the materials.

5. After the tool path is generated, the tool path simulation and machining simulation can be carried out through Operations Manager to verify whether the tool path is correct. At the same time, you can also use the operation manager to edit and modify the tool path, and finally generate the NC code that can be interpreted by the CNC controller through the subsequent processor.

6. The two-dimensional machining system of 6.MasterCAM milling machine includes form milling, slotting, drilling, face milling, full circle milling and other modules.

I think it is more convenient to do 3D modeling with Mastercam 9, but there is no AutoCAD for 2D graphics.

It is convenient to come, and Mastercam is adopted as the standard of design, processing and manufacturing at home and abroad. Although I am not familiar with milling machines, I have read the teacher's call and think it is very convenient to use Mastercam to simulate machining, which should be very useful for factories. At least we can use this software to verify whether the programmed tool path conforms to the envisaged path.

In short, through this semester's study, although I can't learn to use Mastercam software well, I have at least a certain understanding of this software, which will provide a certain foundation when I need to apply it to this software in the future, and I won't be as ignorant as I was before taking this course.
