(1) This paper expounds the concept of procrastination of graduate students from three aspects of behavior, cognition and emotion: not starting or completing what it should do within the scheduled time limit, as if the expected negative consequences, inefficient behavior of still working to the deadline or not completing the task, irrational belief and rational thinking process of delaying behavior, accompanied by negative emotions such as anxiety, pain, guilt and regret, which are different from those based on time priority coordination. The areas of procrastination of graduate students are academic procrastination, daily life procrastination and decision-making procrastination.

(2) Causes of procrastination of graduate students: past experience, internal factors and external factors. Past experiences include early perfect image, family influence, habit and reinforcement. Internal factors include: emotion, motivation and personality, time management skills, self-control ability. External factors include: the nature of the task and environmental reasons. Three factors can cause procrastination, and they can also cause procrastination through interaction. One factor can combine the effects of other factors. Past experience forms a procrastination template in the early stage, which leads to fear of failure and success. Perfectionism personality and motivation are components of internal factors, which are related to past experience to some extent. Past experience and internal factors make individuals susceptible to delay. When confronted with tasks that don't match their interest ability and external environment interference, individuals will turn their attention to other things in order to avoid bad emotions, and delay is used to complete the task of protecting self-esteem. The appearance of procrastination does not match the individual's cognition of the task that should be completed. Individuals adopt rational methods to avoid the pain caused by cognitive dissonance. Procrastination is to maintain and strengthen, and individuals are in a procrastination cycle.

(3) Postgraduates' procrastination comes from three aspects: emotion and cognition. Among them, there are positive and negative results. One person suffers from self-confidence due to substandard task results, while the other enjoys a short and efficient task peak experience and high self-esteem. To some extent, procrastination is the result of new reasons for procrastination.

(4) Most graduate students don't accept their procrastination and try to take relevant change measures. Because of the influence of internal and external factors, it is difficult to take effective measures for a long time.

(5) Postgraduates' procrastination behavior, causes, results and coping strategies are the fourth part of mutual connection and interaction. The causes and results of procrastination behavior are the causes of new procrastination behavior to some extent, and effective coping strategies must be adopted to change procrastination behavior.

(6) According to the reasons for procrastination, graduate students' procrastination can be divided into four types: task-oriented procrastination, environment-oriented procrastination, self-esteem-oriented procrastination and habit-oriented procrastination. This classification is helpful to understand the main reasons for their procrastination from graduate students and provide a breakthrough point for the improvement of procrastination.

(7) On the basis of analyzing and mastering the procrastination behavior of graduate students, the reasons and changing strategies, this paper puts forward some suggestions to improve the procrastination behavior of graduate students from three aspects: negative thinking mode, relieving stress and taking positive actions.
