The scientific research achievements of experts and scholars in this institute have also made great contributions to national and local economic construction and social development. For example, the foundation treatment technology of dynamic compaction is adopted in infrastructure and industrial and civil buildings in Shanxi Province, which saves tens of millions of yuan compared with traditional methods; The research results of three-layer grid spatial structure have been applied to the long-distance hangar of Capital International Airport and Kunming World Expo Park. The research results of shock absorption technology are applied to the inspection and maintenance of Liaomu Tower in Yingxian County. In teaching and scientific research, in recent five years, it has undertaken 500 provincial and ministerial projects under the National Natural Science Foundation 15, including 4 teaching achievement awards in Shanxi Province, 2 first prizes for provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievements, 6 second prizes, 3 third prizes, 4 invention patents and 7 utility model patents. He has published more than 600 academic papers, more than 100 articles included in SCI and EI, and more than 30 textbooks and monographs. In terms of discipline construction, structural engineering and geotechnical engineering were awarded the right of doctor's degree in 1998 and 2000 respectively, and the right of master's degree in civil engineering in 2003. Structural engineering and geotechnical engineering were approved as key disciplines in Shanxi Province in 1998 and 2006 respectively. Disaster prevention, mitigation and protection engineering was approved as a key construction discipline in Shanxi Province in 2007, and civil engineering was approved in 2006.
