Feng is a sacrifice to heaven, and Zen is a place of worship.
In order to worship heaven, the ancient emperors chose Mount Tai, the head of the Five Mountains, and Fu Liang near Mount Tai. Fu Liang is also known as the "land god".
The ancients believed that Mount Tai and Fu Liang were places where human beings "reported" to heaven and earth through sacrifices.
Among the five famous mountains in China, Mount Tai is not the highest. Why did the ancients think Mount Tai was the highest? Two reasons:
One: The special location of Mount Tai, which is the highest mountain in eastern China and the highest mountain in the Central Plains (there was no accurate measuring tool in ancient times).
Two: Mount Tai is located in the lower reaches of the Yellow River Basin with a long history and culture. This area is relatively developed in ancient times, and it is one of the cradles of ancient civilization in China. Because it is the concentrated place of ancestors, the subconscious cognition is "the mountain is unattainable", and everyone praises it. Later, they all thought Mount Tai was the highest mountain.
Qin Shihuang was the first emperor to close Zen. Before the first emperor, the purpose of meditation was mainly to worship heaven and earth. Offering sacrifices to heaven and telling the earth is actually a primitive worship, expressing awe of the sun, the moon, mountains, rivers, storms and lightning.
After the first emperor, the main purpose of Zen Buddhism was to show off the great achievements of the son of heaven and show his lofty status from the "divine right of monarch".
Imperial Zen must meet two conditions:
1: The emperor created a peaceful and prosperous time;
2. Create a country and establish a country.
Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty defeated the Huns, created a prosperous time, and had the conditions to accept Zen.
Qin Shihuang destroyed the six countries and unified China, and thought that he had made great contributions, surpassing the three emperors and five emperors. So there will be a amenorrhea ceremony.
Because the closing ceremony before the first emperor was too far away from the era of the first emperor, the first emperor decided to make his own ceremony flow.
He climbed the peak at the southern foot of Mount Tai and climbed to the top of Mount Tai for a meditation ceremony. Down to the north of Mount Tai, I went to the foot of the mountain to meditate on Fu Liang.
As for eulogy and sacrifice, it is confidential.
In the era of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, the Huns were finally defeated, making the Western Han Dynasty the most powerful country in the world at that time, juxtaposed with the Roman Empire. Therefore, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty felt that it should also be shown to the world through the ceremony of closed meditation.
Because Emperor Wudi didn't know how the previous emperors held amenorrhea ceremonies, Emperor Wudi also decided the ritual flow of amenorrhea himself.
Different from the first emperor, he first held a meditation ceremony in Fu Liang, and then held a ceremony on the top of Mount Tai.
Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty closed his retreat to Zen five times in his life, and he was the champion of the emperor's retreat to Zen.
