The Origin of Miao Huashan Festival
There are different versions of the origin of the Miao Huashan Festival:

Origin of Huashan Festival (1)

In ancient tribal times, Huangdi was the leader of the Han nationality and Chiyou was the leader of the Miao nationality. Huangdi and Chiyou used to be very friendly. Later, the two men had an argument, and the contradiction became more and more serious. They refused to give in to each other. Later, a big war broke out between them. The war was fierce and lasted for a long time, until the sky was dark, the sun and the moon were dark, the bodies were everywhere, and the land was desolate. In the end, Chiyou was defeated, and the Miao people were forced to wander around and become a divided exiled nation. In order to reunify the Miao nationality, rebuild their homeland and let the Miao nationality survive, Chiyou is heartbroken, forgets to eat and sleep, and thinks hard. He believes that Han people can't play Li Xiao and Lusheng, but only Miao people can. So he came up with a good idea. He sent people to cut bamboo to make flutes and lusheng, and let the mage play on the top of the mountain. At the same time, he erected a flower pole at the top of the mountain. Miao people living in all directions suddenly heard their most familiar lusheng sound and walked along it. Walking, they saw the tall flower pole again, and everyone gathered in the place where the flower pole was erected. ...

Finally, the Miao people were reunited, and everyone happily sang and danced to celebrate this festive day of rebuilding their homeland.

Since then, during this period of time every year, the Miao people have to hold grand song and dance activities, and the Huashan Festival of the Miao people has been handed down.

The Origin of Huashan Festival (2)

Once upon a time, there was a Miao couple who had been married for many years and had no children. At this time, the husband and wife went out to seek medical treatment. They walked and asked, but to no avail. After walking for a long time, one day, they suddenly came to heaven, and the couple went to ask the Emperor of Heaven. The Emperor of Heaven told them: When you two go back, go to the top of the mountain and set up two flower poles to represent your husband and wife. The two flower poles should stand on two mountain bags and be named "Huashan". After the flower pole is erected, people from all directions should be invited to play Huashan. At that time, the man wanted to burn incense and the woman wanted wax. Play Huashan, from the first day of the first month, peach blossoms bear seeds, and after playing Huashan, you can have children. After thanking God, the couple went home happily.

After the couple came home, they put up two flower poles at the beginning of the first month and invited people from all directions to play Huashan at the beginning of the first month. Huashan Mountain was very lively at that time, with the sound of gongs, drums, suona and lusheng shaking the earth and breaking through the clouds. The Emperor of Heaven sent immortals to visit Huashan and found that even Thor and Dragon King had come down to visit Huashan. There is no cloud or rain in the sky, there has been a drought on earth, and the seedlings are dead and the food is not born. Hearing this, the Emperor of Heaven recalled Thor and Dragon King and sent immortals to pull pedicels. After the flower stalk was torn off, it emerged from the ground and grew upward until it grew to the sky. The Emperor of Heaven also sent immortals to hoop the flower stems with golden hoops, which shortened the hoop by one section. When the iron ring was only two feet long, they tied the flower pole with twelve gold rings, then pulled it out and threw it under a big stone. Before the Spring Festival of the following year, the Miao people transported the flower poles to their homes, and on New Year's Eve, they transported them up the mountain to erect them. In order not to affect agricultural production, they have been playing Huashan since the first day of the first month. At that time, the main purpose of playing Huashan Mountain was to pray for children, and to make two flower poles, only two feet high.

Since then, Huashan Festival has become a grand traditional festival for Miao people.

The Origin of Huashan Festival (3)

According to legend, a long time ago, there was no communication between Miao and Han. Miao people are good at singing and dancing, hardworking and brave. They work at sunrise, rest at sunset, work hard on the land and live a self-sufficient life. During the day, they plow and weave, and at night, they help the old and the young, singing and dancing together. I don't know how many years later, that carefree life was envied by the Han people, so they tried their best to find out and kill the Miao people cruelly, so that they had no place to stand, so they could only go their separate ways and find their own position.

Miao people live a wandering life alone, but the cruel Han people still don't let them go. They are still frantically slaughtering the Miao people, arousing their resistance. They rose up to attack, set up a flower pole in Wang Cai, and called on all Miao people to fight for their homeland. With the joint efforts of Miao compatriots, they regained their happiness. The Han people never invaded the Miao nationality again.

The origin of Huashan Festival (4)

The fifth day of the fifth lunar month is the Huashan Festival of the Miao people in Wuding, and its origin is different from other regions. Legend has it that the ancient Miao leader had a dispute with Sanfu and was surrounded by Sanfu. Miao people set up a wooden pole in the center of the encirclement, tied a sheep to the mountain, put grass between the two sheep, and put a big drum under each sheep's hoof. The sheep struggled desperately to find food and kept kicking drums to confuse the enemy. Then the Miao people broke through together and reached safety on 1 1, which happened to be the time when the five mountains bloomed in early May, so it was called "Huashan Festival".

Every Huashan Festival, Miao people from all directions come to the gathering place wearing their carefully sewn costumes, playing lusheng and dancing happily. At the same time, competitions such as wearing colorful clothes, bullfighting, horse racing, shooting and crossbow shooting will also be held, which have been deeply loved by the Miao people for thousands of years.

Year after year, two people live in peace. On the first day of this year, Miao people, as usual, played lusheng, played sanxian and drummed drums, and men, women and children sang and danced to celebrate their happy lives. At this time, I heard shouts everywhere, gongs and drums, and greedy Han people slaughtered Miao people again. They took revenge on the Miao people, and the battle lasted from the first day to the fifth day. The Miao leader and his four sons all died, and only the youngest son survived. Han people also suffered heavy casualties, leaving only one daughter.

One day, the Miao young man came to the mountain and saw the flowers blooming all over the mountain, thinking of his dead parents and brothers. He couldn't help being sad and singing folk songs. This song attracted a little girl of Han nationality. When she heard this song, she couldn't help thinking of the sad past and came to the mountain involuntarily. They sang to each other and talked about their misfortunes in the past five days. Although life experiences are different, they are the same, congenial to each other, giving gifts to each other and getting married. Later, in order to commemorate this day that brought disaster and happiness to themselves, the first day of the first month to the fifth day of the first month of each year became the Miao people's flower picking festival.

The origin of Huashan Festival (5)

Miao people in northeastern Yunnan and southern Yunnan celebrate the "Huashan Festival" on June 6 of the lunar calendar every year. Legend has it that in ancient times, the Miao people were defeated and exiled in a foreign land, and they wept when they remembered the sufferings of their ancestors who fled east and scattered west. One year on the sixth day of June, our ancestors appeared and advised them not to be too sad. They should play lusheng and sing and dance for us at the top of the mountain. After that, a flower fell from the sky and hung on a tree. Everyone sang and danced around the trees and blew reeds. The crops grew very well this year. From then on, on June 6th every year, the Miao family put on their holiday costumes, planted a flower tree on the high mountain, and held duets, lusheng dances, bullfights, lion dances, flower pole climbing and other activities. Among them, the most striking thing is the flower climbing pole. Whoever climbs high will be given a pig's head and a good wine prize

Lion dance is also one of the important activities of the festival. If the lion jumps well and climbs high, there will also be wine and pig's head rewards. During the festival, there will also be bullfighting activities. By then, bullfighting enthusiasts will bring tall and powerful bulls from all over the world, and it is difficult for them to estimate the outcome when driving. The winning cow was led to the flower pole by the owner, circled around the flower pole, and then put on red and strange colors.
