1. Xingyue Bodhi
Xingyue Bodhi is the seed of rattan in palm family. The southeast coast of China, South Asia and Southeast Asia are all producing areas of this plant. Most of the Xingyue Bodhi on the market is produced in Hainan, and the locals in Wuzhishan call it Hongteng. The seeds of several vines are also sold as bodhi. Speaking of vines, I'm afraid the most impressive thing about this plant is its thorns. Leaf rachis and petiole are densely spiny, and even the involucre outside the inflorescence has thorns.
The ornamental part of rattan seeds is mainly the endosperm in the seeds, and the so-called "moon" on the Xingyue Bodhi is the position of the embryo. The "first month" sought after by the market means that the embryo is located in the middle position on the side of the bead-because the shape of rattan fruit is different, it is not always guaranteed that the embryo is in the same position in the processing process, so the "first month" has less output and higher price. The "star" on the Bodhi of the Sun and Moon embodies a characteristic of Palmae plants-chewy endosperm, that is, the surface of endosperm is uneven, and some kinds of endosperm, including rattan, are particularly deep in this depression, and the seed coat and part of endocarp go deep into the depression and become "stars" after polishing. If you cut open a bodhi, you can see that many of those "stars" do not go deep into the core.
2. King Kong Bodhi
King Kong Bodhi is probably the bodhi with the most patterns on the market. There is a simple reason. The number of petals varies, ranging from two or three petals to more than a dozen petals. King Kong Bodhi is the seed of Elaeagnus Du Ying. Du Ying is distributed in Hainan, Yunnan, Guangxi and other places in China, mainly in Indochina Peninsula. Du Ying, which belongs to the same genus, will be used as a street tree in the south. Du Ying, a round fruit, uses its hard endocarp as a bodhi. Generally speaking, Du Ying, a round fruit, has five ovaries and peeled Bodhi has five petals. However, there are less than five petals or more than six petals in the market, because there are variations when flowers are formed, which leads to changes in the number of carpels. The market value of more than eight petals is relatively high because the number is relatively small.
3. Lotus Bodhi
Lotus Bodhi is probably the most mysterious source of all kinds of Bodhi on the market. The original plant of Guilian Bodhi is a wild jujube somewhere in North China, and the endocarp of hard bone is the ornamental part. Because the standard lotus bodhi on the market is extremely rare now, the price of a single seed is often hundreds of thousands, and it is difficult to find a few to break open for observation. However, as can be seen from the detailed photos, the lotus bodhi is a double carpel, which is similar to the seed structure of Rhamnaceae. At present, you can also buy Ziziphus jujuba seeds in Taihang Mountain area, which are very similar in shape to lotus bodhi. The reason for the high price of lotus bodhi in the market is that its quantity is scarce, the distribution area of original plants may be narrow, and manual collection may lead to resource depletion.
4. blood lotus bodhi
This kind of blood lotus bodhi can be said to be one of the cheapest bodhi on the market, because its source is different from lotus bodhi, and the original plant is Ranunculaceae's pandanus or other plants of the same genus. This kind of plant can be distinguished from a distance, and its leaves obviously grow in a spiral shape. Because of its beautiful shape, it is cultivated as a street tree in many places in Hainan, Guangdong. Its fruit cluster is very large, consisting of dozens of drupes, which looks a bit like a pineapple. There are many carpels of pandanus, which are combined into a bundle, the middle and lower parts are combined into one, and the upper part is separated. When each drupe bundle is peeled off, it can be seen that there are several angular structures, and the lower parts are combined together. These are the endocarps of its hard bones. If you cut it, you can see that the carpel and the base are combined.
5. phoenix eye bodhi
Most of the phoenix-eye bodhi is imported. If you travel to Nepal, you can buy this kind of phoenix-eye bodhi at a very low price. The so-called phoenix-eye bodhi is also the seed of Zizyphus jujuba mill. There is more than one specific plant, Zizyphus jujuba Z is one of them. In addition, there are also papers that classify Bodhi Eichhornia as Ethiopian dates. The hard bone structure of Eichhornia bodhisattva is its endocarp. In the market, you can also see fruits with three, four and five carpels, which will be called longan bodhi, Kylin Eye Bodhi and Papaya Bodhi.
6. Thousand-eyed Bodhi
Bodhi with a thousand eyes comes from Palmae and other plants of the same genus. These 20 species of raffia are distributed in tropical Africa, especially Madagascar. These palm plants are characterized by their long pinnate compound leaves-one of them is called R.regalis, which has the longest compound leaves in the world, up to 25 meters long. If you don't know how to deal with the problems when planting bodhi, you can consult an expert on the cloud. It is the world's largest agricultural science and technology question and answer platform. There are tens of thousands of planting and breeding experts, and every question raised will be answered within 2 minutes.
7. Five elements of Bodhi in the Forbidden City
At present, among all kinds of bodhi markets, except Lotus Bodhi, the highest price is probably the Five Elements Bodhi in the Forbidden City. The "Bodhi Tree" in the Forbidden City was planted by Tiliamongolica in Ming Dynasty. It is used to enjoy the seeds in its drupe, and five lines can be seen on the endocarp of Tiliamongolica's five-loculed ovary, which are abdominal sutures of adjacent carpels.
8. Si Qian Bodhi
A thousand-silk bodhi, also called a thousand-silk fruit, like a thousand-eye bodhi, is generally not strung together, but held and played by a single person. The original plant of Bodhi in Si Qian is the foxtail coconut of Palmae, which is native to Oceania. As a street tree, foxtail coconut is widely introduced in the south of China, so thousands of bodhi trees on the market are also made in China, with large output and low price. The exocarp of foxtail coconut drupe is bright red, and there are many fibrous textures on the endocarp, hence the name "Thousand Silk Bodhi".
9.bodhi root
Bodhi root is not a root, but the hard endosperm of palm leaf palm. Bodhi has eradicated making beads directly and is often carved into various handicrafts. Palmae originated in South Asia and was introduced to China with the popularity of Buddhism. In Buddhist belief, its main function is not to make beads, but to carve Buddhist scriptures with its leaves-called laurel leaf scriptures. If we look at the root of the bodhi tree, we can clearly see the internal structure of its hardened endosperm, and we can also see the embryo at the bottom of the fruit. The above-mentioned "moon" of Xingyue Bodhi is also of the same structure.
