The content involves the knowledge of social science, natural science and humanities, in which social science accounts for a large proportion, natural science accounts for a small proportion, and humanities have recently increased. Social science often involves economics, psychology, sociology, education, communication and so on, while politics and military affairs are not. Natural science mainly involves medicine, biology, engineering and the history of science. The humanities mainly involve literary criticism, language, prose and essays.

In terms of genre, the syllabus requires reading four types of articles: argumentative, explanatory, narrative and practical (such as letters, technical descriptions and product introductions). But the topics are mainly argumentative and explanatory.
