Originally named "Engineering Master's Qualification Examination" (GCT-ME for short), the examination began in 2003, when the application scope of the examination was only for candidates who applied for a master's degree in engineering.

Since 20 16, the national entrance examination for in-service personnel to study for master's degree (commonly known as in-service graduate students) has been completely abolished. This will mean that the on-the-job postgraduate entrance examination held in 14 has officially come to an end, and the threshold for obtaining a master's degree, the simplest method, will be much higher than before.

The cancellation of the 20 16 GCT exam into the January joint exam does not mean the cancellation of the on-the-job postgraduate policy. The notice also pointed out that in addition to the MBA, other categories of on-the-job employees studying for master's degrees will be included in the national enrollment plan and the national unified entrance examination for master's students in the form of part-time postgraduate education.
