Basic principle of deacidification by alkali refining

Alkaline refining deacidification is a deacidification method which uses the neutralization reaction between caustic soda solution and free fatty acids in crude oil to generate sodium soap (also called soap foot) which is precipitated in oil and separated from oil. Soap feet have strong adsorption capacity, which can adsorb protein, mucus, pigment and even mechanical impurities in crude oil and precipitate them together.
