After 1984, he mainly engaged in the study of the Yellow River Delta, and made contributions to the harbor construction and regional development in this area, focusing on the impact of human activities on the development of coastal areas in North China.
Ren Meihua presided over the landform survey of the middle route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project and the karst research along the southwest railway. According to the field investigation data, he put forward the concept of deep karst, and systematically classified the causes of deep karst caves according to the formation mechanism, which played an important guiding role in the construction of southwest railway tunnels and raised the research of karst in China to a new level. Ren Meihua began to systematically study the development of karst caves and explore the scientific theory of karst in the mid-1950s. On the basis of analyzing and summarizing the field investigation data for many years, he published the article "Some Issues on the Law of Karst Development in China", which brilliantly expounded the zoning law of karst landform types in China, thus established a new viewpoint of "deep karst", analyzed the mechanism of deep karst, and put forward the genetic types of deep karst caves. He published the article "The Development of Zhoukoudian Cave and Its Relationship with Ancient Human Life" in China Science, which creatively combined the research methods of karst, sedimentology and paleoanthropology. According to the sedimentary characteristics of the cave accumulation layer, combined with the research and measurement data of mammals, sporopollen and other fossils, he described the paleogeographic environment of Peking Man Cave with at least 8 obvious climate fluctuations between 700,000 and 230,000 years. These research results have established the karst theory with China characteristics, and also enriched the contents of karst science in the world. This achievement 1984 was listed as a major national scientific and technological achievement by the State Science and Technology Commission. Ren Meihua has worked in the field of geographical science for 50 years, published more than monographs 10 and published more than 200 papers.
