Luntai county is located in the west of Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang, at the southern foot of Tianshan Mountain and at the northern edge of Tarim Basin. It is the largest primitive Populus euphratica forest park in Xinjiang and the most concentrated area of primitive Populus euphratica forest in the whole Tarim River basin.
