Yuan Longping (1September 7, 930 —202 1 May 22, 2000), male, Han nationality, born in Beiping (now Beijing), was a non-partisan in Dean County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. Famous agricultural scientist at home and abroad, pioneer and leader of hybrid rice in China, outstanding representative of personages without party affiliation, winner of "Medal of the Republic", former vice chairman of Hunan Provincial Political Consultative Conference, former director of National Hybrid Rice Engineering and Technology Research Center, and academician of China Academy of Engineering, he is known as the "father of hybrid rice".
1953 graduated from Southwest Agricultural College, 1995 was elected as an academician of China Academy of Engineering, 1999 An asteroid discovered by Schmidt CCD Asteroid Project Team of Beijing Observatory of Chinese Academy of Sciences was named Yuan Longping Star, which won the highest national science and technology award in 2000, the Wolf Agricultural Award in 2004 and the foreign academician of National Academy of Sciences in April 2006.
20 18 was elected as the first member of China Invention Association. On September 8, 20 18, he won the life science award of "Future Science Award"; 20 18 12 18 the CPC central Committee and the State Council awarded Yuan Longping the title of reform pioneer, the reform pioneer medal and the research pioneer of hybrid rice.
Yuan Longping devoted himself to the research, application and popularization of hybrid rice technology, invented "three-line method" indica hybrid rice, successfully developed "two-line method" hybrid rice, and established the technical system of super hybrid rice.
