But before he conquered, he was dead. What do you mean?
The enemy died before he won the victory.

It's from The Book of Letters by Du Fu, a poet in the Tang Dynasty.

Shuxiang original:

Where is the temple of the famous prime minister in a pine forest near the Silk City?

The steps are dotted with green grass in spring, and birds are chirping happily under the leaves.

The third call aggravated his state affairs, and he gave his sincerity to two generations.

But before he conquered, he died, and since then the heroes have been crying on their coats.

Original translation:

Where can I find the ancestral temple of Prime Minister Zhuge? The cypress trees outside Jincheng residence are lush.

The green grass reflects the natural spring scenery of the stone steps, and the oriole sings beautifully among the dense leaves.

At that time, our ancestors asked you for advice many times, helped our ancestors build the country, and helped successors to continue their businesses.

It's a pity that you set out to fight in a dying army, which made heroes in ancient and modern times feel tears in their skirts.

In the second year of Gan Yuan, Tang Suzong, Du Fu ended his four-year exile in Qin Zhou and Tonggu. With the support of his friends, he came to Chengdu and settled by the Huanhua River. Chengdu used to be the capital of Shu and Han, and there is Zhuge Liang Temple in the northwest of the city, which is called Wuhou Temple. In the spring of the first year of Shangyuan (760), Tang Suzong visited Zhuge Wuhou Temple and wrote this touching poem.
