He once worked as a subtitle decorative painting for Shanghai Star Film Company, and later worked as a stylist in Shanghai Marble Factory. 1928, organized the White Goose Painting Society with Pan Sitong and Fang Xueqi, and founded the White Goose Painting Academy. 1934 changed its name to White Goose Painting Tutoring School, and served as the editor-in-chief of the fine arts magazine of Liangyou Book Company. Editors include White Goose Yearbook, Beauty of Decoration and White Goose Pictorial. After 1936, he devoted himself to the research and creation of traditional paintings in China. Cao Jin Society was founded in 1945 and joined Shanghai Fine Arts Writers Association after 1946. 1950 participated in the work of the Art Department of the Ministry of Culture of East China Military and Political Commission. 1954 Director of Shanghai Arts and Crafts Supply Society, founded New China Academy of Fine Arts. 1955 Minister of Exhibition Department of China Artists Association and curator of Shanghai Art Museum.
