Ivan sergeevich turgeneve was a Russian critical realist writer in the19th century. His major works include novel Luo Ting, Family, Eve, Father and Son, Virgin Land, novella Xia, First Love and so on.

Turgenev was born in a noble family in Orel province, but he hated serfdom since he was a child. He studied at Moscow University and Petersburg University, and went to Berlin for further study after graduation. After returning home, he and belinsky became close friends. 1847, writing for Modern People magazine, opposing serfdom from the standpoint of liberalism and humanitarianism.

Turgenev started writing at the university. The Hunter's Notes, written continuously from 1847 to 1852, is his famous work, which mainly shows the relationship between farmers and landlords under serfdom. The anti-serfdom tendency of this work angered the authorities, who arrested and exiled Turgenev because he published an article commemorating Nikolai Gogol and violated the censorship regulations.
