Chongqing metropolitan area embodies the process of centralized and decentralized spatial development. Based on the analysis of the types and evolution laws of urban spatial structure in China, and through the comparative study of the evolution of urban spatial structure in Chongqing, Hong Kong and Shanghai, this paper puts forward the macro-structure of Chongqing metropolitan area with one heart and two wings and the idea of "multi-button, centralized and compact" urban spatial planning and development model.
