"Gejiu" evolved from the transliteration of the Yi language "Guozuo", which means the place where buckwheat seeds are planted and buckwheat rice is eaten. Gejiu is a metallurgical industrial city mainly producing tin, producing lead, zinc, copper and other non-ferrous metals. It is a famous "tin capital" at home and abroad.

Gejiu belonged to the ancient times (that is, Lin 'an House, now Jianshui County), and it belonged to Mengzi County in the Yuan Dynasty, which was called Gejiuli. In the second year of the Republic of China (A.D. 19 13), the county was established, and the city (county) was changed in 1950. Located in the south of Yunnan, 3 18km away from Kunming, with an area of 1374km2 and a population of 360,000, it is a new industrial city in Yunnan.

Gejiu is rich in underground mineral resources The proven reserves of non-ferrous metals such as tin, copper, zinc and tungsten reach 6.5 million tons, including more than 900,000 tons of tin, accounting for 1/3 of the national tin reserves. Rare plants include Yunnan Camellia, Stichopus japonicus, East Palm, Yunnan juniper, Elaeagnus Elaeagnus, Cycas, etc. Among them, Cycas Honghe, known as the "living fossil", is unique to tropical rain forests.

Gejiu has a total area of 1.587 square kilometers and a total population of 453,300, including 309,500 urban residents, and the urbanization level is 68.3%. Gejiu is a landscape city with an altitude of 1.689 meters and an annual average temperature of 1.6 degrees. It has the characteristics that the city is in the mountains, the lake is in the mountains, and there is no cold in winter and no heat in summer.
