Gejiu belonged to the ancient times (that is, Lin 'an House, now Jianshui County), and it belonged to Mengzi County in the Yuan Dynasty, which was called Gejiuli. In the second year of the Republic of China (A.D. 19 13), the county was established, and the city (county) was changed in 1950. Located in the south of Yunnan, 3 18km away from Kunming, with an area of 1374km2 and a population of 360,000, it is a new industrial city in Yunnan.
Gejiu is rich in underground mineral resources The proven reserves of non-ferrous metals such as tin, copper, zinc and tungsten reach 6.5 million tons, including more than 900,000 tons of tin, accounting for 1/3 of the national tin reserves. In addition, there are rare and precious metals such as beryllium, bismuth, gallium, germanium, cadmium, silver and gold, and nepheline reserves are about 3 billion tons, ranking first in the country.
Gejiu is not only rich in tin ore, but also rich in other non-ferrous metal resources. There are as many as 28 kinds of proven mineral resources in Gejiu. Gejiu has great difference in altitude, obvious three-dimensional climate and abundant animal and plant resources. The forest coverage rate in the city is 32.3%, with 420 species of trees, 5 species of bamboo, more than 200 species of wild medicinal materials and more than 270 species of wild flowers. Rare plants include Yunnan Camellia, Stichopus japonicus, East Palm, Yunnan juniper, Elaeagnus Elaeagnus, Cycas, etc. Among them, Cycas Honghe, known as the "living fossil", is unique to tropical rain forests.
Gejiu has a total area of 1.587 square kilometers and a total population of 453,300, including 309,500 urban residents, and the urbanization level is 68.3%. Gejiu is a landscape city with an altitude of 1.689 meters and an annual average temperature of 1.6 degrees. It has the characteristics that the city is in the mountains, the lake is in the mountains, and there is no cold in winter and no heat in summer. Urban built-up area 1.2 square kilometers, urban resident population 1.6 million.
Each old city has jurisdiction over one street, seven towns and two townships: urban street, Xicheng town, Shamian town, Ji Jie town, Datun town and Laochang town. Kafang Town, Manhao Town, Jiasha Township and Baohe Township.
