When he was young, his family was poor and he was the youngest. When I was 7 years old, I began to learn drama from a bangzi class. I became a martial artist. At the age of 9, he entered yutian county Jiuhechun class to study fine arts. After graduation, I went to Beijing, joined Song Zhucheng and played a supporting role in martial arts. After a long period of training, I learned good kung fu, singing and acting. About 20 years old, he is called "living Zhao Yun" in his hometown. Soon he went to Beijing alone. At that time, Beijing was a gathering place for famous Peking Opera artists. Shang entered Yucheng class, and after some wrestling and ups and downs, he played the role of Guan Sheng in a play "Pick up Guan Sheng", which was a great success. Landing steadily from the podium set up by three tables, conquering the audience. 1900 after the boxer incident, merchants returned to Tianjin for 25 years. Travel to and from Beijing, Shanghai and other places is extremely hot here. Since then, he studied under the famous Yu, one of the three major martial arts schools at that time. It was carefully cultivated by two teachers, one is Yu's younger brother Zhang Yugui and the other is Yu's brother-in-law Zhang Hushan. After that, he performed in Guinness and Northeast China with great achievements. 1925, at the invitation of Mei Lanfang, Shang joined the Mei Troupe. Later, he organized his own classes to perform in Beijing and Tianjin and became a famous martial arts actor. Since then, businessmen have settled in Beijing. 1952 actively participated in the charity performance of donating aircraft to resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea. Although he is 79 years old, his stage style remains the same.

As an outstanding performing artist and the founder of the genre, he still attaches great importance to the cultivation of new people. In his early years, he taught in Peking Opera Academy, Fulian City Society and Rongchun Society. In 1930s, he was invited to the drama class of Tianjin Ji Gu Society as honorary principal and invited teacher, and personally presided over the teaching of children's class. Zhang Chunhua, Xu Junhua, Cai and Liu Wuhua have been trained. After the founding of New China, he still taught in Chinese Opera School and trained a group of martial arts talents.
