In the first year of Guangxu reign in Qing dynasty (1875), the fort was built. /kloc-in 0/4, the navy prefect's office was established, stationed in the mine camp, and a manufacturing factory and a naval academy were established. Many new fortresses have been built on the north and south sides of the Gulf and in Liu Gongdao, Japan Island and Huangdao, which have become coastal defense fortresses and Beiyang naval bases. Ahava is an ice-free port, surrounded by mountains on three sides, with an entrance to the east and Liu Gongdao in front, forming two passages in the east and north. Ri Island, Huangdao Island and Yashi Island are listed on both sides of Liu Gongdao, forming a natural barrier of the port, and the situation is dangerous and stable.
1894 During the Sino-Japanese War of 1894, due to the dangerous terrain and strong fortifications in Ahava, the Japanese army decided to avoid frontal attack from the port. Twenty-five warships were assembled, with more than 25,000 troops, and landed from Longxu Island in Rongcheng Bay. After detour, they took the South Shore and attacked Weihai Port by land and water.
Beiyang fleet was caught between Scylla and Charybdis, completely annihilated, and Weihai fell (see the Battle of Weihaiwei). 1898 was forcibly leased by Britain, and 1930 was taken back. In War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, 1938, the Japanese army invaded Weihai again, 1945, Japan surrendered in August, and it was recovered by China. Weihai was founded in 1945, and is now the naval base of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
