There is no reliable record of the life of Shi Naian, the author of Water Margin, in historical documents in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. After the middle of Ming dynasty, although there are sporadic records, they are contradictory. Due to the lack of literature, it is difficult to be admitted, so some people doubt whether there is Shi Naian in history. In the early days of liberation, the Central Ministry of Culture and the Subei Federation of Literary and Art Circles sent people to Baiju Town in Dafeng County and Shijiaqiao in Xinghua County to investigate the historical materials of Shi Naian. The investigation report of the former has not yet been published. It is reported that the conclusion is generally that there is no Shi Naian in northern Jiangsu; The investigation report of the latter, written by Ding and Su, was published in No.21issue 1952 of Literature and Art Daily, and published the genealogy of Shi, which made the research a step forward.
