Coated paper, also known as printing coated paper, is made by coating a layer of white slurry on the base paper and calendering. Paper has smooth surface, high whiteness, low flexibility, good ink absorption and acceptability. It is mainly used for printing the covers and illustrations of advanced books and periodicals.

Offset paper, also known as "Taoist paper", has no coating on its surface, and its gloss and smoothness are worse than coated paper. It is mainly used for lithography (offset printing machine) or other printing machines to print advanced color printed matter, such as inner pages of color pictorial, inner pages of picture books, posters, advanced books, book covers and inserts.
