brief introduction

Yang Jingzhi, 19 12, was born on June 4th in a poor peasant family in Wende Village, Quyang County, Hebei Province. My father, Yang Dezheng, is a thrifty housekeeper and tries to support the whole family. Yang Jingzhi has three sisters, two brothers and 1 younger brother. His parents put up with hardships and saved money to send their children to school. Yang Jingzhi was admitted to the junior middle school of Zhicun Middle School in Baoding City, Hebei Province with 1927. 1930 was admitted to No.6 Middle School of Hebei Province in Baoding City. 1932 graduated from high school and was admitted to the forestry department of Hebei Agricultural College. 1933, because of his deep admiration for Peking University's reputation, he was willing to sacrifice his one-year student status and enter the Geology Department of Peking University. Luckily, he won.

Peking University Geology Department has a strong faculty, including famous professors such as Ding Wenjiang, Li Siguang, Glip and Xie, and has a strong academic atmosphere. Yang Jingzhi and his classmates received a good education there. He and his classmates Lu, Ye Lianjun, Guo, Yue Xixin,, Tongcheng later became outstanding geologists, and Lu, Ye, Guo and Yue were elected academicians of China Academy of Sciences.

1June, 937, Yang Jingzhi graduated from the Geology Department of Peking University and went to work in Jinsui Mineral Exploration Bureau of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. Soon, the "Lugouqiao Incident" broke out, and War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression started in an all-round way. Yang Jingzhi left Taiyuan with Hou Defeng, Li Shuxun and Zhou Dezhong, directors of the Mineral Department of the Bureau, and went to Changsha, Hunan Province in early 1938 to attend the geological society of china 14 annual academic conference held in Changsha. When meeting with Li Chunyu, a geologist who came back from Germany, Li told them that he set up the Sichuan Geological Survey and served as its director according to Weng, then Minister of Economy. At that time, only Chang Longqing, director of the Institute of Geology of China Western Academy of Sciences, transferred from the Sichuan Provincial Construction Department, Li Xiancheng and Su urgently needed to attract geologists to work in the Institute. Yang Jingzhi, Hou Defeng and Renji went to Sichuan-Chongqing Geological Survey with Li Chunyu. Together with these people, they can be called "pioneers" of the Institute.

Beginner post

Yang Jingzhi worked in Sichuan Geological Survey Bureau for 8 years as an assistant technician and technician. At the institute, he and Hou Defeng investigated the mirabilite mine in pengshan county, the coal mine in Qianwei County, the geology of Mianzhu, Pingwu and Jiangyou counties, the topography of Sichuan Basin and so on. After Hou Defeng took over as the director of Sichuan Geological Survey, Yang Jingzhi worked under the direct leadership of Hou Defeng, and they forged a profound friendship in their work.

After War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's victory, the Geological Survey moved back to Nanking on 1946. Li Chunyu, director of the Institute, is an old superior and good friend of Hou Defeng and Yang Jingzhi, and invited them to work in Nanjing. So Hou and Yang were transferred to the Institute in July, 1946. Hou technology is correct, and Yang is recommended as a technician.

1947 65438+ 10, Yang Jingzhi was sent to the United States for further study to study microfossils in the Department of Geology, University of Miami, Ohio. 1In June, 948, he passed the defense of the thesis "bryozoa of Middle Ordovician in Eton, Ohio, USA" and obtained the Master of Science degree. In August of the same year-165438+ 10, I went to the American Museum of Natural History in Washington to observe the specimens and consult the microfaunology literature. At the end of the same year, he returned to China.

/kloc-at the beginning of 0/949, he married Hou _ Tang, the daughter of Hou Defeng. Hou _ Tang 1944 graduated from the Geology Department of Chongqing University and worked in the Geological Survey of Sichuan Province. They have worked together in the same institute for a year or two and know each other very well. During Yang Liumei's stay, Hou Tang worked in Nanjing Institute of Geology, China Academy of Sciences. They have a son and a daughter after marriage, and now they all work in Nanjing.

From the end of 1948 to the beginning of 1949, after the "three major battles" of Liaoshen, Huaihai and Ping Jin, the People's Liberation Army came to Nanjing. The reactionary Kuomintang regime is teetering. The Kuomintang government ordered the Central Geological Survey and other units to move out of Nanjing. Director Li Chunyu and famous geologists Yin Zanxun, Zhou Zanheng, Hou Defeng, Cheng, Li Shanbang, Gao Zhenxi and Ye Lianjun led the anti-relocation struggle. Yang Jingzhi and the vast majority of employees agreed that they should firmly unite around the leaders, stay in Nanjing, and be on duty, stand guard and patrol in the office to protect property and personal safety. 1On April 23rd, 949, Nanjing was liberated, and the staff, books, instruments, specimens and all the property of the Central Geological Survey of the former Ministry of Economic Affairs were returned to the people in good condition, becoming an important base for the rapid development of new China's geological undertakings.

Mineral survey

In the early days of People's Republic of China (PRC) (China), Yang Jingzhi was still engaged in geological and mineral surveys. 195 1 At the beginning of the year, the geological organization was adjusted and the Institute of Paleontology of China Academy of Sciences was established (later changed to "Institute of Geology and Paleontology of China Academy of Sciences" and "Nanjing Institute of Geology and Paleontology of Chinese Academy of Sciences"). Yang Jingzhi and Hou Tang were transferred to the Institute and worked in the Institute for more than half a century. They have all become authoritative scientists in paleontology and stratigraphy, enjoying a good reputation at home and abroad. Yang Jingzhi has successively served as the leader of the research group on graptolite, coral and bryozoa, and is the academic leader of stratigraphic paleontology in bryozoa, China (Hou Tang is the main academic leader of ostracods in China). Yang Jingzhi also served as the director of the laboratory of microfossils, sedimentary minerals, sedimentary rocks and late Paleozoic. In 1956- 1962 and 1980- 1984, he was elected as a member of the academic committee of the Institute, and 1985 was an honorary member.

Yang Jingzhi has been the project leader of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Scientific Investigation Project since 1972, participated in editing the first, second and third volumes of the Report on the Scientific Investigation of Mount Qomolangma, and won the special prize for scientific and technological progress of China Academy of Sciences from 1986. 1959, 1979, at the first and second national stratigraphic conferences, he was elected as the deputy head and leader of the Carboniferous Formation of the National Stratigraphic Committee. 1962- 1984, was elected as the vice chairman of the first, second and third councils of Jiangsu Geological Society. 198 1, the professional committee of stratigraphic paleontology in geological society of china was established, and he was elected as the vice chairman. 1979 and 1984 were elected as the executive directors of the third and fourth councils of the Chinese Paleontological Society, and 1989 later served as honorary directors. From 65438 to 0979, the Chinese Paleontological Society and Science Press jointly formed the Editorial Committee of Basic Theories of Paleontology Series and Monographs of Paleontology. Who was the member? 1980 The China Microfossil Society of the Chinese Paleontological Society was established, and he served as a director.

Yang Jingzhi attended the 5th International Congress of Carboniferous Stratigraphy and Geology held in Paris on 1963. 1965 and 1980 went to Czechoslovakia and the Federal Republic of Germany for academic exchanges, visited relevant geological institutions and scientific research units, and observed geological sections. In the Federal Republic of Germany, he also represented the China Academy of Sciences to discuss the cooperation projects in stratigraphy and paleontology between the two countries. 1968 was recommended as a member at the first meeting of the International Society of Bryophytes. 65438-0983 participated in the 10th International Congress of Carboniferous Stratigraphy and Geology held in Madrid, Spain. At this meeting, he was elected as a member of the working group of Carboniferous internal boundaries and a standing member of the International Carboniferous Conference, and was determined to be responsible for preparing the 1 1 International Carboniferous Stratigraphy and Geology Conference held in China from 65438 to 0987. This meeting was held in Beijing in August. 1987. As the chairman of the academic Committee of the conference, he successfully completed the task.

Yang Jingzhi joined the Jiu San Society on 1956, China on 1959, and 1958+0978 was elected as the representative of the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th National People's Congress in Nanjing, Jiangsu.

Outstanding achievement

After the first national stratigraphic conference, in order to provide sedimentology basis for the development of paleontology and stratigraphy, the Institute of Geology and Paleontology of China Academy of Sciences actively set up a sedimentology laboratory. Yang Jingzhi has done a lot of mobilization and organization work for this purpose, and served as the laboratory director for more than 20 years. On the topic selection, he stressed that it is necessary to combine paleontology and biostratigraphy, and carry out work in stratotype profile, boundary stratotype or main geological boundary, biogeographic flora and energy and minerals urgently needed by the country. Over the years, the laboratory has covered North China, East China, South China, Southwest China, Northwest China and other regions, and the research strata cover the Sinian to the Early Tertiary. The research covers the sedimentary environment, sedimentary facies, sedimentary model and paleogeography of carbonate rocks, argillaceous rocks, siliceous rocks, sandstone, iron, manganese, phosphorus and other minerals, oil and gas sources and reservoir rocks. Comrades present here have finished dozens of papers and reports, 1 more than 10,000 words, which Yang Jingzhi reviewed one by one and put forward many valuable opinions. He has made great contributions to the training of talents and the construction of the laboratory.

Yang Jingzhi has been a member of the Academic Committee of Nanjing Institute of Geology and Paleontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences for a long time, and is responsible for cultivating young scientific and technological talents. He personally recruited seven graduate students and trained more than 10 young and middle-aged scientists and technicians, many of whom have become famous paleontologists outside China. He attaches great importance to cultivating talents and cherishes their enthusiasm for innovation. For example, Wang Chengyuan, his graduate student, had studied foraminifera with him at the beginning, and also had many achievements. But Wang saw the development potential of dental fossils and wanted to change. This has been wrongly accused by some people of liberalization. However, Yang Jingzhi greatly appreciates this and has given various support in terms of manpower, material resources and financial resources. Wang Chengyuan made rapid progress and achieved fruitful results. In particular, the origin of this fossil is discussed, and it is pointed out that it is a thorn in the flesh of Chaetognathus, so it is called "conodont", which is unique in academic circles and has far-reaching influence outside China. The subject of conodonts in this institute is in a leading position in China and has played a great role in scientific research and production.

Yang Jingzhi and Hou Tang are old and still in their prime. They are far-sighted when discussing the future development strategy of paleontology. They wrote "Paleontology" in the book "Earth System Science: China's Progress and Century Prospect" published by Chen 1998. Yang Jingzhi published an article "My Views on Today's Paleontology" in Microbiology and Paleontology 200 1. Generally speaking, it means that paleontology is facing the improvement of methods and the renewal of technology, from the description of external morphology and the exploration of internal structure to the comprehensive study of external environment and other related disciplines. These insights have pointed out the direction for paleontologists.

Yang Jingzhi has been engaged in geology and paleontology for 70 years. He is modest and prudent, loyal to the party and the people, conscientious, rigorous in his studies, indifferent to fame and fortune, and sets an example for the majority of post-scholars.
