The origin of the memorial hall of Taihu guerrilla memorial hall of the New Fourth Army
20 10 On February 4th, in order to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the New Fourth Army's breakthrough in Taihu Lake, the Taihu Guerrilla Memorial Hall of Suzhou New Fourth Army was officially opened at the beautiful Taihu Lake in Guangfu Town. Chongshan was originally a small island located in West Taihu Lake in Guangfu Town, with an area of less than 3 square kilometers. There are hundreds of farmers and fishermen living here, and the geographical location is remote, surrounded by lush reeds. It is one of the main camps of guerrillas in Taihu Lake. 1944, the Taihu guerrillas of the New Fourth Army were besieged by the Japanese army on the island of Guangfu Town. With the full assistance of the local people, they escaped safely 20 days later. This is the famous "encirclement of mountains".

Today, Mr. Xie Zhenlin, a veteran of the New Fourth Army's Taihu guerrillas and a witness of "encircling the mountains", tells the history of that year. Dating back to1September 9, 944, 55 Taihu guerrillas of the New Fourth Army who had been fighting guerrillas on Chongshan Island for a long time were suddenly surrounded by puppet troops for more than 300 days in an attempt to wipe out the anti-Japanese forces in Taihu Lake area at one fell swoop. In the case of being outnumbered, it took 20 days of bloody fighting to break through smoothly.

In order to commemorate the soldiers of the New Fourth Army who died in this breakthrough, Suzhou City built the Taihu Guerrilla Memorial Hall of the New Fourth Army, and named it the patriotic education base of the city, which is open to the public free of charge from now on.
