Located in the peninsula on the west side of Yanqi Lake in Huairou, Beijing, the project is the core area of Yanqi Lake International Capital controlled by Beijing, covering an area of 650,000 square meters. Positioning as a national conference center is an important measure to enhance Beijing's status as a "world city". There are large conference centers, boutique resort hotels, VIP villas and exhibition halls on the island.
Planning and design:
Surrounded by water on three sides, overlooking the Yanshan Mountains and the ancient Great Wall, the island is located in a beautiful place, expressing a concept of sustainable development that strives to live in harmony with nature. It is planned to dredge the west channel to turn the peninsula into an independent island and enhance its dignity and privacy. Fully protect the existing lakeshore, native trees and original landforms, relying on distant mountains and near water, the west bank of the East Lake forms a north-south and east-west axis, skillfully integrating the ritual space sequence with the natural texture, symbolizing the harmony between heaven and earth. On the central axis, the international conference center and exhibition hall in the core area will be expanded, and two natural landscape gardens, Summer Garden and Winter Garden, will be formed with the north and south ends, forming the main public open space. According to different topographical features such as mountains, waterfront, peninsula and canyons, five villa settlements are scattered all over the island. By connecting the ring-shaped main road and the terminal branch road, each villa can enjoy different scenery while maintaining privacy. This method of drawing lessons from Chinese city-building and gardening is not only an inheritance of tradition, but also a response to nature.
Architectural design:
As the host, the summit is a place to celebrate harmony and the blending of civilizations. By mapping the diversity of world civilization with the richness of regional culture, this cultural concept of "harmony but difference" has been applied to the design of VIP villas. The island is characterized by low in the south and high in the north, with the western hills flowing east, which is opposite to the territory of China. The five villas around the island represent the natural and cultural features of different regions in China, show the inclusiveness of Chinese civilization and give people more cultural experiences. Each villa is built according to the local topography, overlooking the mountain view or overlooking the lake by the water. Expressing China people's view of nature in the way of "attaching affection to mountains and rivers" Courtyard, as the core space of China architecture, has become the theme of design, introducing nature and creating an introspective and peaceful spiritual experience. Each VIP villa is a small boutique hotel, which not only improves the functions of government affairs, communication, residence and parking, but also provides space for fitness, entertainment and cultural appreciation. This cultural heritage is accomplished through modern architecture, seeking the balance between China elements and international vision.
The boutique hotel is surrounded by the natural water inlet on the east coast of the island and is organized into a central water courtyard. Take advantage of the height difference from the shore to the lake to create an entrance lobby experience overlooking the lake and close to the courtyard. Dissolve the hotel volume into seven units to form three groups of semi-closed courtyards, embracing lakes and mountains. The dining and leisure space on the first floor is close to the shore, talking with nature, and there is a trestle to introduce the line of sight into the lake. All rooms have landscape bathrooms and balconies with lake views.
Ecological design:
According to the characteristics of the original site, the whole core island is divided into three types: mountain, flat and waterfront, and a long scroll of freehand brushwork landscape painting is drawn. In waterfront ecology, considering that the core island is a lake-friendly island with high ecosystem heterogeneity, ecological corridors will be built around the island to form a natural ecological barrier, and then new waterways will be artificially excavated to alleviate the high gap between dry season and high water level. In the aspect of flat land ecology, through shoreline regulation, wooden stakes, stones and other rest places are set up to attract wild animals and improve biodiversity. For mountain ecology, secondary primary trees should be preserved as much as possible. Landscape vegetation forms four parts: landscape recreation area, urban forest area, wetland restoration area and woodland restoration area, and buildings are hidden in the natural system.
Landscape design:
At the same time, in landscape design, the original vegetation should be preserved as much as possible, and the vegetation that must be transplanted due to construction should be restored after construction. In this regard, AECOM pursues the use of local plants on the island, rather than deliberately introducing exotic flowers and plants from outside. Finally, through vegetation reconstruction, wetland restoration, vegetation protection and revetment remodeling, it presents the "Peach Blossom Garden" interest of pastoral, rural, fruit forest, waterfront ecology, natural woodland and garden. Pedestrians can not only overlook the Mutianyu Great Wall in the Yanshan Mountains, but also walk among the buildings on the island, and feel the feeling of "harmony between man and nature".
The whole design tries to balance openness and privacy, China and the world, tradition and modernity, nature and humanity. It attempts to interpret the "real China" in the sense of the present era for the world with the idea of advocating harmony and nature.
