The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement was a peasant uprising, but why did it last for 14 years?
The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement was a peasant uprising war led by Hong Xiuquan and others against feudal rule and foreign capitalism in Qing Dynasty during Xianfeng period. He initiated it because the rulers of the Qing Dynasty severely oppressed ethnic minorities and exploited their classes, which intensified the contradictions among domestic classes. Coupled with frequent natural disasters, many farmers were miserable, so they launched an anti-Qing war.

And at that time, Hong Xiuquan believed in the organization of worshipping God. Because of the influence of western Christianity, his thoughts are very close, and he wants to overthrow the current regime and establish a new empire. The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement lasted for 14 years because the leaders who had just followed Hong Xiuquan had a particularly high anti-Qing sentiment, and people everywhere were oppressed by the Qing government for a long time. As soon as Hong Xiuquan rebelled, they began to respond to Hong Xiuquan's regime.

However, it is these fourteen years that have given these people who followed Hong Xiuquan to farmland a strange psychology. They also want to be emperors and bosses, so there is a contradiction between them. In this way, after fourteen years, the vigorous Taiping Heavenly Kingdom movement ended.

The reason for their failure was that they lacked the leadership of the advanced class at that time and still had the limitations of the small peasant class in form. In addition, there were many strategic mistakes in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement. The leaders believe that as long as Nanjing is occupied, even if it can't be realized, the place south of the Yellow River can be occupied. So after they occupied Nanjing, they began to indulge in pleasure and have no fighting spirit. In fact, after the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom made some achievements, with the continuous expansion of power, leaders began to transform from safeguarding farmers' interests to feudal rulers.
