Ningxia Wuzhong, why is the name like a person's name?
Many place names in China are named after people's names, such as Jiexiu City in Jinzhong, Shanxi Province (in the Spring and Autumn Period, Zhong Er was a courtier of the State of Jin), Wuqi County in Yan 'an, Shaanxi Province (in the Warring States Period) and Renqiu City in Cangzhou, Hebei Province (in the Western Han Dynasty). Most of these names are ancient celebrities. Wuzhong in Ningxia is also named after people, and it is also a prefecture-level city, which is also one of the few in the country.

Wuzhong seems to be unknown in history. Who is he? Let's get to know Wuzhong first. Wuzhong is located in the middle of Ningxia, with Yinchuan Plain in the north and Zhongwei Plain and hilly areas in the south. Clockwise, the northeast and northwest are adjacent to Dingbian County, Guyuan City, zhongwei City and Yinchuan City, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province, the southeast is adjacent to Qingyang City, Gansu Province, and the Etuokeqian Banner of Inner Mongolia and Alashan Zuo Qi of Alashan League are adjacent. Wuzhong governs two districts, two counties and one county-level city, with a total area of about 20,200 square kilometers, more than three times the area of Shanghai, and a population of less than 6,543.8+0.5 million.

Wu Zhongyu 195 1 established a county-level city, and 1998 upgraded to a prefecture-level city. Wuzhong looks younger, but actually Wuzhong has a long history. After Qin Shihuang unified the world, he sent general Meng Tian to attack Xiongnu in the north, set up a county along the Yellow River to manage the recovered land, and set up Fuping County in the southwest of Wuzhong today. Everyone is familiar with the establishment of Lingzhou County in the Western Han Dynasty (BC 19 1) and later renamed Lingzhou. The Qin-Han Canal dug here during the Qin and Han Dynasties played a very important role in promoting the development of local agriculture and animal husbandry. Animal husbandry was particularly developed. There were two horse farms in the Han Dynasty, which provided war horses for the imperial court.

In the Tang Dynasty, there was the Yellow River in Lingzhou, with numerous water conservancy facilities and rich products, which ensured the harvest in drought and flood. It is the grain bag of Chang 'an, the capital city, and is called "the granary of the world" and "the south of the Yangtze River". During the Anshi Rebellion in the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Xuanzong fled and Prince Hengli was established in Lingzhou. Lingzhou became an important transportation hub on the Silk Road in the late Tang Dynasty, and its commerce and trade developed rapidly.

During the Northern Song Dynasty, Lingzhou ushered in a glorious moment in history, and the core of Xixia, which stood in the balance with Song and Liao Dynasties, was Lingzhou. After Li captured Lingzhou from the Northern Song Dynasty, he designated Lingzhou as the capital of Xixia. Although his son Li Deming later moved the capital to Xingqing (now Yinchuan), Lingzhou still exists as the capital.

However, in the early Ming Dynasty, Lingzhou City was destroyed by the Yellow River flood. After moving the capital several times, it finally moved to today's lingwu city, and the ancient city of Lingzhou (now Wuzhong) gradually declined. Wuzhong was located in the border of Ming Dynasty. In order to guard against the influence of nomadic people, the imperial court set up nine border towns, namely Liaodong, Fu Xuan, Jizhou, Datong, Taiyuan, Yansui, Ningxia, Guyuan and Gansu, on the northern border from Yalu River in the east to Jiayuguan in the west, which was called "Jiubian Town" in history.

There are dozens of barracks under the Lingzhou garrison of thousands of families in Ningxia town, one of which is Wuzhong Fort. This is the first time that Wuzhong appeared as a place name. Wuzhong was originally the name of Tunchang, and later evolved into a place name. At that time, it was common to name military camps after people, such as Li Junbao, Qujing Fort and Shaogangbao. Because there are so many similar military car factories, it is impossible for the court to name them one by one. There are related records in the Old Records of Ningxia: "The fort of Ningxia is named after people, things and places, that is, the names of its captains, such as Ye Sheng and Wang Tai, Li Junhe."

In the Ming Dynasty, there was a man named Wuzhong. His father Zhen Wu, uncle Wu Liang and Zhu Yuanzhang are fellow villagers in Fengyang, Anhui. They made a lot of efforts for the establishment of the Ming Dynasty and were the founding heroes of the Ming Dynasty. Wu Zhenshan fought a water battle and was named Jinghai Hou; Wu Liang was named Hou of Jiangyin, and later was named Jiang Gong. Wu Zhen was later stationed in Qingyang (now Qingyang, Gansu). After his death, his son Wuzhong attacked Jinghai Hou. Wu Zhong was later punished for his involvement in the Hu case. However, it is unlikely that Wu Hong, the Hou of Jinghai, and Wuzhong, the owner of Wuzhong Fort, are the same person, because although they have the same name, their identities are too different.

Wuzhong Fort is small, in the square west of Wuzhong Street Park, east of Xihu Community, south of Yumin West Street and north of the post office. Why can it stand out from many bunkers and eventually become the name of a prefecture-level city? Wuzhong Fort built in Ming Dynasty collapsed in Qing Dynasty and was rebuilt in Qing Dynasty.

Wuzhong fort has the advantage of convenient transportation because it is located at the crossroads of land and water. In the old society, there were no means of transportation such as trains, and transportation mainly depended on water and land. Wuzhong, relying on the Yellow River, has two large docks. Its commerce and trade have developed rapidly, and its prosperity and influence have gradually surpassed those of other military forts, such as Jinjibao. So that after 1949, Wuzhong was named after the county.
