On 20 19 and1June, FINA ruled that the inspection was invalid, and there was no violation of the World Anti-Doping Regulations in Sun Yang. Two months later, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) because of dissatisfaction with FINA's ruling, demanding that Sun Yang be suspended for at least two years and at most eight years.
The Court of Arbitration for Sports held a public hearing in Montreux on 20 19+0 15 to hear the case of World Anti-Doping Agency v. China swimmers Sun Yang and FINA. In the end, the sports arbitration court found Sun Yang guilty and punished him according to a maximum ban of eight years. The view of the sports arbitration court is: "The athlete has not proved that he has a convincing reason to destroy his sample collection container and give up the doping test."
Sun Yang retrial judgment
On June 22nd, the Sports Arbitration Court announced that China Olympic swimming champion Sun Yang's eight-year ban would be reduced to four years and three months (i.e. 5 1 month), and the start date of the ban would be February 28th, 2020, which meant that Sun Yang would miss the Tokyo Olympic Games and the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
The second trial of Sun Yang case was held from May 24th to 29th. Different from the first hearing, this hearing was held in the form of video conference behind closed doors and was not open to any media. A spokesman for the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has said that the results will be announced by the end of June at the latest.
In the previous trial, Sun Yang was sentenced to eight years' ban, but later Sun Yangfang filed a complaint on the grounds that the arbitrator's remarks were inappropriate, and the case was reiterated. The new three-member arbitration panel includes Hans Nath of Switzerland, Jan Paulson of France and Bernard Hanno of Belgium.
