Can Xue is regarded by international literary circles as one of the most accomplished writers in contemporary China. About the author:

Can Xue, whose real name is Deng Xiaohua. 1953 was born in Changsha. His parents are party member and the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1930s and 1940s. His father is the president of New Hunan Newspaper, and his mother also works in the newspaper. 1957, can Xue's father was overthrown as the leader of the right-wing anti-party group of New Hunan Newspaper, and his family was in trouble. Can Xue was brought up by her grandmother, who starved to death when she was seven years old.

Can Xue graduated from primary school (that is, from the beginning of the Cultural Revolution). She worked as a miller, assembler, barefoot doctor, substitute teacher and other jobs unrelated to literature, which lasted 10 years. Later, she taught herself to sew and became an individual tailor with her husband. Can Xue first published her novel, 1985+0, in June. Up to now, there are 4 million words of works. She is regarded by American and Japanese literary circles as one of the most creative writers in China literature since the mid-20th century. Representative works include: Old Cloud (medium-length), Scar (medium-length), Long Hair Encounter (medium-length), Spiced Street (long) and The Last Lover (long).

Can Xue is one of the most translated and published writers of China's works. Her novels have become literature textbooks of Harvard, Cornell, Columbia University, Tokyo Central University and National College of Japan. Her works have been selected as world-class novels for many times in the United States and Japan.
