The school is located in Gongshu District, Hangzhou, covering an area of 1 1,000 mu, with a school building area of 400,000 square meters. Founded in1July, 1999, it is a new type of ordinary undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education and Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, jointly run by Zhejiang University and Hangzhou Municipal People's Government, and co-sponsored by Zhejiang Post and Telecommunications Administration (now Zhejiang Telecom Industry Group).
