Kadyrov's father Ahmed Kadyrov was killed in an attack in 2004. On March 1 2007, he was nominated by Putin as the presidential candidate of the Chechen Republic, and was elected as the president of the Chechen Republic by the Chechen Parliament the next day. Later, it was renamed the head of the Chechen Republic 20 1 1.

According to global person, Kadyrov lost 420 relatives in the Chechen war, his father was killed and he was assassinated five times.
