After returning to China, Tan Tieniu opened up several new research directions in the laboratory, including computer vision monitoring of dynamic scenes, identification and authentication based on human behavior and biological characteristics, and watermarking of digital multimedia data. 1998 won the research fund of "Excellent Returned Overseas Students" from the Ministry of Personnel, and was selected as a member of the National 863 Intelligent Computer Expert Group after fierce competition.
