Admission requirements and procedures for international schools in Hong Kong

Step 1: Visit the school.

Some schools require parents who apply for the seventh grade of kindergarten middle school to join the school profile Club. Applicants applying for other grades are encouraged to join the school profile Club.

Tip:

If the family lives overseas and can't visit the school or attend the briefing, it is recommended to apply for more schools first and explain the situation to the school. Families can make up their visits after arriving in Hong Kong.

Step 2: Apply

Fill in the application form and pay the application fee, about HKD 1000-3000.

Identification documents:

birth certificate

Passport photo page (if any)

Hong Kong visa (if any)

Hong Kong Identity Card (if any)

Proof of academic achievement

One-page resume of activities and achievements (for applicants in grades 7 to 13). In the activity and performance resume on this page, the applicant's recent activities and performance should be listed, including:

Achievements in sports activities, participation in sports activities, participation in community services, acceptance of plans, proficiency in musical instruments-admission level, drama production-participation methods, and other activities/achievements.

Step 3: Interview/Entrance Examination

Take an exam/assessment/interview

Students must take the exam in Hong Kong.

Some schools charge for exams.

The evaluation can be a group or individual interview, and parents are generally not allowed to be present when students evaluate.

Some kindergartens/preschool classes will allow parents/guardians to accompany children aged 2-3.

Students may also need to take placement exams to measure their children's learning ability. For a more detailed understanding of the content of the exam, see "Interview" and "Written Test Topics" on our website. Generally speaking, schools will pay attention to:

English proficiency: Most schools (including kindergartens/preschool classes) require proficiency in English. During the evaluation/interview, the school will evaluate the children's English ability, and some of them need a formal English proficiency test.

Math and English: Schools usually need to test students' math and English.

Chinese (Putonghua): Most schools do not require a Putonghua test. However, in some (bilingual) schools, a formal Putonghua test is required. Mandarin is widely used in China and Singapore, while Cantonese is used in Hong Kong. International schools usually teach Mandarin instead of Cantonese.

History, science, other subjects: Some schools may need students from junior high school or above to take these subjects.

Tip:

Schools like confident children. Try to prepare children and make their answers clear and have their own characteristics. Etiquette is very important, so polite greetings and farewells are very popular.

Step 4: Admission results

Applicants will be notified of the admission results by mail or email. According to the vacancy situation, some applicants who have taken the entrance examination may be put on the waiting list. Students who take the entrance examination but are not admitted can reapply for admission in the next academic year. It is worth noting that some schools need to re-apply for the relevant application procedures and need to pay the application fee again. The relevant application procedures of the school must be repeated, and the application fee needs to be paid again.

The school will ask parents for confirmation within 1-2 weeks after the applicant has obtained the admission qualification.

If you decide to go to school, parents need to pay the relevant fees immediately, that is, nomination fee and deposit, plus the first month's tuition. Payment is non-refundable.

Parents can't reserve a degree for students or postpone enrollment for one year.
