There are many grottoes in Gansu Province, which is known as "the hometown of grottoes art in China". These grottoes, large and small, which have been continuously built since Wei and Jin Dynasties and densely distributed along the Silk Road, are like a string of pearls sown by the Buddha, shining with magnificent and bright artistic colors, making the land of Longyuan reflect in a magical and peaceful Buddhist aura. The most famous grottoes in Gansu are Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes. Besides the Mogao Grottoes, Dunhuang also has Yulin Grottoes, West Thousand Buddha Cave, East Thousand Buddha Cave, Five Temple Grottoes and modern grottoes. The famous grottoes in Gansu are Maijishan Grottoes in Tianshui.
