Brief introduction of red headscarf
Name source
Red headscarf is the name Singapore used for overseas Chinese women engaged in rough house construction in Sanshui County, Guangdong Province in their early years. Wearing bright red headscarves, they crossed the ocean to make a living in foreign countries. Faced with the harsh living environment of early immigrants, they were self-respecting, United and selfless, and changed their lives through their own efforts. They have also made great contributions to various constructions in Singapore and gradually gained respect from all walks of life at home and abroad. Red headscarf has become a unique title for Sanshui women, and it is also a unique term to show the noble personality of overseas Chinese women.
Subsequent influence
Today, Singapore is still full of praise for red headscarves and calls their fighting spirit "the spirit of red headscarves for dolls". It was not until more than ten years ago that the stories of these women were gradually mentioned by people in their hometown. In 2009, Sanshui District launched a global search for red headscarves, and only 37 red headscarves were collected. Today, among the 37 elderly people, only Huang Sumei, aged 104, is alive and enjoying his old age in Sanshui District Welfare Home.
