Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University was founded on 1927. When it was founded, it was named National Fourth Sun Yat-sen University Medical College. It is the first national university medical school founded by China. 1928 was renamed as National Central University Medical College in May, and 1932 became the only national medical college in China in May.
1939, after the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the college moved to Kunming, Yunnan; 1940 moved to Chongqing, Sichuan. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the college moved back to Shanghai, and 1952 was renamed Shanghai First Medical College. 1985, Shanghai First Medical College was named Shanghai Medical University.
