Guilin University of Electronic Technology, formerly known as Guilin Institute of Electronic Technology, is located in Guilin, a modern international tourist city famous for its green hills, beautiful waters, strange caves and beautiful stones. Guilin Institute of Machinery, the predecessor of Guilin University of Electronic Technology, was founded in 1960. The school has been renamed as Guilin Mechanical Industry School, Guilin Radio School and Guilin Institute of Electronic Industry, and it is affiliated to Fourth Ministry of machinery industry, Ministry of Electronic Industry, Ministry of Mechanical and Electronic Industry, China Electronic Industry Corporation and Ministry of Information Industry. In 2000, the management system was changed to a combination of central and local governments, with local management as the mainstay. It is one of the key universities in Guangxi. In February 2006, the Ministry of Education agreed that Guilin University of Electronic Technology should be renamed Guilin University of Electronic Technology.
