Where is the strongest biology department?
Of course, the School of Life Sciences of Peking University is the strongest school in life sciences in China (traditionally Peking University, Tsinghua, Chinese University of Science and Technology, Fudan University (genetics), Wuhan University (virus) and Sichuan University, and others such as Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Nankai University and Shanghai Jiaotong University have made rapid progress in recent years.

Biology is not valued in Tsinghua, which was revealed to me by a senior);

Yu, an alumnus of Peking University, cultivated human stem cells by non-cloning technology for the first time in the world, and the news spread throughout Peking University within a few hours. In Peking University College of Life Sciences, where she studied as an undergraduate, teachers and students are even more excited and proud. They sent greetings and congratulations from teachers and students of their alma mater to the other side of the ocean through the Internet at the fastest speed.

As a result, Peking University College of Life Sciences, as the starting point of stepping into the hall of science, once again attracted the attention of the media.

Deep historical tradition

The predecessor of the School of Life Sciences of Peking University comes from three parts: yenching university Biology Department established by 1923, Peking University Biology Department established by 1925 and Tsinghua University Biology Department established by 1926. They merged in 1952 to form the biology department of Peking University. Twenty-six teachers and students from Peking University College of Life Sciences have successively become academicians of China Academy of Sciences and China Academy of Engineering.

Professor T H Morgan, the founder of modern genetics, has three graduate students in his laboratory, who have influenced the biology department of Peking University and its predecessor. They are Professor Alice ·M·Boring who taught in yenching university from 1923 to 1950, Professor Li Ruqi who taught in yenching university and Peking University successively, and Professor Chen Ziying who taught in yenching university and Xiamen University successively. Among them, Li Ruqi, the first foreign student from China who received the doctor's degree from Morgan Laboratory in 1926, taught in Peking University for a long time until he retired in 1989, and was one of the founders of genetics in China.

After several generations' efforts, Peking University opened the specialties of plant physiology, animal physiology and animal genetics from the earliest zoology and botany to the early 1950s. After 1956, biochemistry and biophysics were the first in China; In 1960s, the specialties of cell biology, microbiology, environmental biology and ecology were established successively. In 1960s, biotechnology specialty was established. 1993 The Department of Biology was renamed the Academy of Life Sciences. This year, Yu was admitted to Peking University with the first place in Shaoxing Science.

Strong strength and distinctive undergraduate teaching.

Peking University College of Life Sciences has 4 professors1person, including 3 academicians, 8 from Yangtze River distinguished professor, and 13 winners of National Outstanding Youth Fund. Eight disciplines have the right to confer doctoral degrees, and 12 disciplines have the right to confer master's degrees. It is a unit with the right to award doctoral degrees in the first-class discipline of biological sciences, and has a postdoctoral research mobile station. The college has 6 departments, 5 centers, 2 research institutes, 2 national key laboratories and 2 national bases. Five national key disciplines. There are 43 laboratories in our hospital, whose research fields involve biochemistry and molecular biology, plant biology, physiology, neurobiology, cell biology, developmental biology, behavioral science, bioinformatics, evolutionary biology, conservation biology and ecology.

There are more than 500 undergraduates in the School of Life Sciences. The first three years of undergraduate training are mainly classroom teaching, and the last year is mainly practical research. Over the years, the College of Life Sciences has gradually explored a set of distinctive undergraduate training modes in combination with historical traditions, and achieved remarkable results.

"Unlike most colleges, the Institute of Life Sciences has basically abolished the concepts of' teaching and research section' and' department', but is in line with international standards. Each professor establishes an independent research laboratory according to the research direction, and is responsible for the operation, research direction and funding of the laboratory. The college ensures the stability of the research environment. "

"Among the 150 undergraduates enrolled in each session, except for about 10% students who are employed or engaged in research in other disciplines, they will choose to do biology-related internships in research centers such as psychology and economics. The remaining undergraduates entered the laboratory from the end of their sophomore year, accounting for about 90% of all students. "

According to statistics, during 20001-2005, there were as many as 100 SCI articles published by undergraduates in the College of Biology, among which 29 articles were signed by undergraduates as the first author. Since 2003, undergraduates have published 16 papers in Professor Longchuan's neurobiology laboratory, among which 14 papers have been included in SCI. Recently, the student delegation of Peking University College of Life Sciences, representing China college students for the first time, participated in the annual international college students' competition of the highest level in the field of synthetic biology-the International Genetic Machine Design Competition, which won a very high honor in one fell swoop. Of the team members 18, 14 is an undergraduate. Because of the excellent articles published, students have won the favor of famous American universities: three students, such as Wang Duo, entered Harvard University, four students, such as Zhang, entered Johns Hopkins University, and three students, such as Wei Wu, entered Duke University.

2. Jilin University is also good. One of my high school classmates, who is engaged in biology competition, is fascinated by biology, so he went to Jilin University to study biology. His vision is credible.
