The middle school affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music is a national key secondary specialized school directly under the Ministry of Education (formerly directly under the Ministry of Culture). Its predecessor was 1945, a youth class of the National Conservatory of Music established in Qingmuguan, Chongqing (later moved to Changzhou, Jiangsu). 1950, the central conservatory of music was established, and the juvenile class and the national conservatory of music merged into the central conservatory of music, so it was renamed the juvenile class of the central conservatory of music. On June 1957, the school was formally established and named as "Secondary Music School Affiliated to Central Conservatory of Music". It has a history of fifty years.

At present, there are six-year middle schools and three-year primary schools in the middle school attached to the Central Conservatory of Music, specializing in keyboard instrument performance, orchestral instrument performance, Chinese instrument performance, vocal music performance, composition, musicology and so on.
