Tianjin University, referred to as "Tianda" for short, is located in Tianjin, a famous historical and cultural city and the economic center of northern China. Its predecessor was Beiyang University. Founded in 1895 10.2, it is the first modern university in China, which is the first of its kind in modern higher education in China. It is famous for its motto of seeking truth from facts, rigorous scholarship and patriotic dedication. 195 1 year, Beiyang University merged with Hebei Institute of Technology and was named "Tianjin University", which is still in use today.

Tianjin University has three campuses: Weijin Road Campus, Beiyangyuan Campus and Binhai Industrial Research Institute.
