Over the years, the department has been undertaking important scientific research tasks of the country, Shanghai and ministries, and is the chief scientist unit of the "Climbing Plan" and "973 Plan" of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the first director unit of the "Shanghai Polymer Materials Research and Development Center" and the deputy director unit of the "Shanghai New Materials Research Center". He has undertaken 2 sub-projects of major projects of the National Natural Science Foundation and presided over 4 key projects. Since the beginning of the new century (2000-2005), nearly 400 SCI papers have been published, and many papers have been published in top journals such as JACS, Angew.Chem.Int.Ed, Adv.Mater, etc. Professor Shao Zhengzhong's view that silk is equivalent to spider silk is published in Nature in cooperation with Oxford University (Vol.4. A number of basic and applied research projects won awards. The Department of Polymer Science is a research-oriented teaching and research unit. Scientific research and teaching are closely integrated and promote each other. Pay equal attention to theoretical study and experimental skills training, emphasizing students' independent working ability, innovative consciousness, sense of responsibility and the spirit of cooperation, service and dedication. In 2002, Xingjia Volunteer Service Team, with our students as the main organizers and participants, was named "China Excellent Volunteer Service Group" and "Shanghai Top Ten Excellent Volunteer Service Groups".
