Southwest Medical University is an ordinary institution of higher learning in Sichuan Province, located in Luzhou, a national historical and cultural city and a national civilized city, at the junction of Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou and Chongqing. The school was founded in 195 1, formerly known as Southern Sichuan Medical College. 1959 was upgraded to Luzhou Medical College, 1978 was upgraded to an undergraduate college and renamed as Luzhou Medical College, and it was renamed as Southwest Medical University on October/0/5.
