Nantong University was founded in 19 12, which originated from the private Nantong Medical College and Nantong Textile Institute founded by Mr. Zhang Jian, a famous industrialist and educator in modern times. In 2020, China University ranked 33rd in the list of outstanding medical alumni.

The school has four campuses, covering an area of more than 3,700 mu, with a building area of nearly 1 10,000 square meters and more than 2,892,800 paper books. There are five academic journals, among which Journal of Nantong University (Social Science Edition) is the source journal of CSSCI and the national Chinese core journal.
