In September 2000, the Ministry of Education officially approved the Center for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language of Beijing Language and Culture University as one of the "Key Research Bases of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education 100". The Center for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language of Beijing Language and Culture University is a nationwide center, which serves the whole discipline of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and is open to colleagues all over the world who are engaged in teaching and researching Chinese as a foreign language. It is also the information base of this discipline and an important academic exchange base for domestic and foreign scholars to study, impart and learn the latest knowledge. Its purpose is to study the law of teaching and learning Chinese as a second language, serve the discipline construction and teaching practice of teaching Chinese as a second language, focus on the law of cognition and acquisition of Chinese as a second language, and pay attention to the application of research results in the field of teaching Chinese as a second language, so as to promote discipline theory, Chinese ontology, teaching theory and learning theory of teaching Chinese as a second language, cultivate a group of academic backbones, concentrate on undertaking a number of major research projects, and carry out extensive exchanges and cooperation with academic circles at home and abroad.

The Center for the Study of Chinese as a Foreign Language of Beijing Language and Culture University now has an open laboratory for language acquisition and cognition, a laboratory for Chinese teaching and testing, a laboratory for Chinese language and writing, a laboratory for language information processing, a laboratory for visiting scholars, a teaching mobile laboratory, an information reference room and an editorial department.

The editorial department has full-time researchers 12, managers 2, reference room managers 1 and editors 1. The director is a professor and the deputy director is Professor Wang. The Center for the Study of Chinese as a Foreign Language has hired seven famous scholars to form an academic committee. At present, the center's full-time researchers are undertaking more than 30 scientific research projects at all levels, such as the National Social Science Fund, the National Natural Science Fund, the Ministry of Education, Hanban and schools. The total project amount is more than 2.5 million yuan.

At present, beijing language and culture university Center for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language is actively exploring and working hard around the tasks of scientific research, personnel training, academic exchange and consulting services, giving full play to the center's scientific research advantages and characteristics, consolidating and strengthening beijing language and culture university's leading academic position in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and striving to make the overall scientific research level of the center close to the leading level of neighboring disciplines in China after three to five years of efforts, enjoying a high reputation in the field of international second language teaching and research, and becoming a think tank for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
