It depends on the region. Beijing and Shanghai are definitely more expensive than the northwest. If I rent a house near Northwest University, the single room is less than 500. Ordinary house, of course. Set a 1000 or so. 1500 or so is also better. Prices vary from place to place. I know that renting a house near Xi 'an University is very cheap. A set is only a few hundred dollars. I hope this helps.
