History of Pepperdine University
1937, George Pepperdine College was founded by George Pepperdine, the owner of the Christian Church and the Western Automobile Supply Company. His goals are:

1) Establish a first-class and certified college of arts and sciences.

2) Establish students' lives in the image of Jesus, and love the church and humanity. When the school was founded, the United States was facing the Great Depression.

1936, northwest society awarded George Pepperdine college certificate.

1967, the Watts riots took place on Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles in the 1960s, and they moved to Malibu.

1970, due to the increase of research institutes and other colleges, the school was upgraded to a university.

1972, Malibu opened a new campus.
